Montessori International's Gilbert location offers educational programs for children ages 3-6 years. The primary goal of a Montessori educator is not to teach the children, instead carefully observe each of their actions and prepare the environment for her or his own unique characteristic learning styles and state of development. This is accomplished through specifically individualized lesson plans that reflect each child’s interests and development.
The lessons are three part formats known as a "Three Period Lesson." The first period is the “Concept.” It entails the initial presentation of the materials and their proper usage to the child. The second period, “Discovery and Recognition;” refers to the child’s choice of selection and further exploration of the materials. The third period is “Recall and Assessment.” It involves the child’s reflecting back to the educator an understanding of the materials. The third period also provides a challenge to the child as she or he must utilized the lesson in a real world context. This is the essence of the Montessori philosophy.
